Recently on a South West flight from San Francisco to San Diego, SeaWorld was transporting penguins back home from a science convention. The waddling, flightless birds were allowed to roam the aisle much to the delights of passengers.While marching down the aisle a tutorial on the species was given over the airplane's passenger announcement system.

Space Shuttle Launch: Viewed From an Airplane
The last flight of the Discovery space shuttle into space took off on February 24th 2011. Passengers departing on a commercial flight from Orlando, FL where lucky enough to see the take off from their window seats.
The space shuttle is due to return from the ISS space station for the very last time today.

Continental Boeing 777 flat-bed BusinessFirst seats

Continental Airlines announced that all of its Boeing 777 long-haul, international flights now feature new flat-bed seats in its BusinessFirst cabin. CO currently operates the 777-200 on international routes between EWR and Beijing, Delhi, Frankfurt, Hong Kong, London/Heathrow, Mumbai, Shanghai, Tel Aviv and Tokyo Narita, and between Houston and London Heathrow and Tokyo Narita. Customers flying to international destinations on CO 777s are now assured a flat-bed seat.
The flat-bed seats made their operational debut in November 2009 and are also being installed on CO’s fleet of Boeing 757-200 aircraft. CO will begin retrofitting substantially all of its Boeing 767 aircraft with BusinessFirst flat-bed seats in 2011.

Gay wedding on board Virgin America flight

Two men got married on a Virgin America flight from San Francisco to New York last Thursday.
The captain officiated the wedding while flying over Canada where gay marriage is legal. According to a Virgin America spokeswoman this was not the first wedding on one of their airplanes. Virgin Group Chairman Sir Richard Branson had performed a wedding in October 2007 on a flight from San Francisco to Las Vegas. Full story

Pillow fight on board Lufthansa
On board a Lufthansa flight from Tel Aviv to Frankfurt a pillow fight broke out. The flight attendant standing in the aisle seemed to have enjoyed it very much! By the way you won't see this happen on US carriers since those tend to charge a fee for pillows...

Singapore Airlines To Launch Inflight Connectivity
Customers travelling on Singapore Airlines flights will soon be able to stay connected at all times, even at 35,000 feet.
The multi-million-dollar collaboration with inflight connectivity provider OnAir includes a full suite of onboard communication offerings, providing the Airline’s customers with access to Wi-Fi Internet and mobile telephony services. The mobile telephony services will enable customers to send and receive SMS text messages with their GSM-compatible mobile phones, send and receive email messages easily on smartphones and BlackBerry® devices, and make and receive voice calls.
With plans to roll out the services from as early as the first half of 2011, Singapore Airlines will be the first major airline in Asia to launch a full suite of inflight connectivity services. These will be introduced progressively on flights operated by the Airline’s Airbus A380, Airbus A340-500 and Boeing 777-300ER aircraft.

Swiss improves inflight food service in economy class
SWISS is improving its Economy Class product. The airline will be serving freshly-made sandwiches to Economy Class guests on its European services from 1 October onwards. Skyrider
Is this the future on low cost carriers such as Ryan Air? I guess still better then standing as previously announced by O'Leary but dismissed by the The European Aviation Safety Agency.
